Portrait Sculpture
Wednesdays 2:25 - 4 pm // Ages 10 & up
$350 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.
During this course, students will learn the step-by-step process of sculpting a portrait in clay from a live model. Students will gain an understanding of the planes, structure, proportions and basic anatomy of the human portrait, helping them to grasp the complex forms of the face. Chapman will be working alongside the students demonstrating the process as well as giving individual critiques and advice. Students will also complete some drawing projects to reinforce what they are learning with their three-dimensional work. This class is created for all levels of skill from beginners to advanced students.

Portrait Painting & Drawing
Tuesdays 2:30 - 4:15 pm // Ages 10 & up
$350 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.
Learn how to draw and paint the human portrait! In this course, students will gain confidence in their art by being equipped with the valuable tools and techniques to create a beautiful portrait painting. Chapman will begin by teaching the basic structure, planes, anatomy, and proportions of the human portrait. Students will begin with graphite pencil, move onto charcoal and then work in oil paint. Students will work from live portrait models as well as Old Master works and photo references. Through this step-by-step process, students will learn color theory, how to set and mix their palette, and how to use a variety of brushwork. Chapman will give daily demonstrations and critiques to each of the students. This class is created for all levels of skill from beginners to advanced students.
Note: All drawing supplies, oil paints, brushes and brush cleaner will be provided in class. The rest of the art supplies needed must be purchased by the student. The materials list will be handed out on the first class.
Human Anatomy with Sculpture & Drawing
Fridays 8:30 - 10:00 am // Ages 12 & up
$350 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.
In this fun and enlightening course, students will discover the complex forms of the human body as they learn to sculpt and draw the bones and muscles. Anatomy and proportion will be covered as your student gains confidence, using graphite pencil and clay. Students will spend the first semester learning to build an armature (the metal structure which holds the clay sculpture) and will sculpt the entire human skeleton. During the second semester, students will then sculpt all the muscles on top of the skeleton, learning the form and function of each muscle and its attachment-points to the bones. Each week there will be reading and drawing homework on the subject that will be focused on that week in class.
$30 materials fee for armature materials, the oil-based clay that will be provided throughout the course.
Students must purchase a high-quality drawing sketchbook to compile the homework their drawings. It is also recommended to purchase a couple clay modeling tools so that students can work on their sculpture outside of the class time.

Art of the Marine Environment
Tuesdays 1:15 - 2:15 pm // Ages 7 & up
Wednesdays 1:15 - 2:15 pm // Ages 7 & up
$300 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.
Explore the marine environment through different mediums such as sculpture, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, collage and more! Each week students will create a beautiful piece of art, depicting a marine animal. The syllabus will coincide with the Age of Exploration and Discovery's Marine Biology class.

Sculpture & Academic Drawing
Fridays 10:15 am - 12:00 pm // Ages 10 & up
$350 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.
Dive into creating three-dimensional artwork with clay! In this class, students will develop technique and skill in both drawing and sculpture. Working from plaster casts, still-lives, Old Masters, and imagination, students will study the methods of rendering form in clay, graphite, and charcoal. Students will be taught the basic fundamentals through drawing techniques; learning about values, shading, and how to create the illusion of three-dimensional objects. Students will also learn to build an armature (the metal structure which holds the clay sculpture), how to block in the basic shapes of a sculpture and render details in clay. Other elements of sculpture and drawing that will be addressed during the class are composition, rhythm, proportions, planes, structure, and how light describes form.
All in-class materials included. However, students will need to purchase a couple clay modeling tools to work on class projects outside of the class time.
Oil Painting & Drawing
Fridays 12:30 - 3 pm // Ages 12 & up
$350 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.
Learn the step-by-step process of creating oil paintings and drawings that masters have used for centuries. Students will first be taught the basic fundamentals through drawing techniques; learning about values, shading, and how to create the illusion of three-dimensional objects. Students will begin with graphite pencil, advance to charcoal, and then dive into oil painting; learning the basics of color theory, perspective, composition, value, and the variety of brush strokes. Throughout the year, students will learn from Old Master artworks, draw and paint from still lifes, study trees in nature, work on personal projects and more. This is a really informative and fun art class for beginners and advanced artists alike.

Thy Age of Discovery - Jr. High & High School
Thursdays 8:45 am - 12 pm
$600 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.
A one day a week drop-off program where your student will experience the life of the people of the world in the “Early Modern Period” of history.
Students will write & illustrate a sketchbook journal of the history of the world in this period.
Fine Arts will cover great art and excellent art technique from various cultures around the world.
Geography will be covered through map skills.

$600 per 15 week semester. This is a two-semester course.

A one day a week drop-off program where your student will experience the life of the people of the world in the “Early Modern Period” of history.
Students will write & illustrate a sketchbook journal of the history of the world in this period.
Science will focus on the Oceanography and Marine Biology of the seas of the world.
Fine Arts will cover great art and excellent art technique from various cultures around the world.
Geography will be covered through map skills, games, activities, and food.
